<p><b>William Hamilton Meeks</b> III (* <a href="8._August" title="8. August">8. August</a> <a href="1947" title="1947">1947</a> in <a href="Washington%2C_D.C." title="Washington, D.C.">Washington, D.C.</a>) ist ein <a href="Vereinigte_Staaten" title="Vereinigte Staaten">US-amerikanischer</a> <a href="Mathematiker" title="Mathematiker">Mathematiker</a>, der sich mit <a href="Minimalfl%C3%A4che" title="Minimalfläche">Minimalflächen</a> befasst.
</p><p>Meeks studierte an der <a href="University_of_California%2C_Berkeley" title="University of California, Berkeley">University of California, Berkeley</a>, mit dem <a href="Master" title="Master">Master</a>-Abschluss 1974 und der Promotion 1975 bei <a href="H._Blaine_Lawson" title="H. Ab 1986 war er Professor an der <a href="University_of_Massachusetts_Amherst" title="University of Massachusetts Amherst">University of Massachusetts Amherst</a>. Er ist dort <i>George David Birkhoff Professor</i> für Mathematik.
</p><p>Er ist als Experte für <a href="Minimalfl%C3%A4che" title="Minimalfläche">Minimalflächen</a> bekannt und widmet sich auch deren computergrafischer Visualisierung. Er arbeitete u. a. mit <a href="David_Allen_Hoffman" title="David Allen Hoffman">David Allen Hoffman</a> zusammen. 1985/86 war er Gastprofessor an der <a href="University_of_California%2C_Santa_Barbara" title="University of California, Santa Barbara">University of California, Santa Barbara</a>. 2006/07 war er <a href="Guggenheim-Stipendium" title="Guggenheim-Stipendium">Guggenheim Fellow</a>.
